There are over a hundred species of ROSE and thousands of cultivated varieties in the genus Rosa.    Most species are native to Asia, although some are native to North America, Africa and Europe.    

Interesting Notes :

The name Rose comes from the Latin, Rosa. 


Rosa Chinensis is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat stomach problems.


Rose Water is used in some Asian and Middle Eastern sweets.


Rose Hips (from Rosa Canina) are used in teas, soups, jams and jellies.  They are a source of Vitamin C.


The historic Berkeley Rose Garden has more than 1,500 rose plants and over 200 varieties.
