PALM TREES always remind me of warm summer days spent in California and Hawaii.    The tall, slender Washingtonia palms of Los Angeles and the swaying Hawaiian coconut trees are truly unforgettable.

Palms first appeared in the fossil record around 80 millions years ago and are the only members of the family Arecaceae.  There are over 2,500 species of palms living in tropical and subtropical climates.  The most common leaf types are pinnate (like coconut leaves) and palmate (like a fan).
