JAPANESE CEDAR (Cryptomeria Japonica or Sugi) is the sole species in the genus, Cryptomeria.  It is native to Japan and can grow to a height of 230 feet tall.  There are Japanese Cedar trees in China's Tianmu Mountains that are 1,000 years old.   They were cultivated in China for such a long time,  they were originally thought to be natives of China.

Interesting Notes:

The Japanese Cedar is the National Tree of Japan.  It is commonly planted around temples and shrines.
