FERNS Portfolio

FERNS bring back many pleasant memories of hiking along forest trails in search of new adventures.   They send me back in time, even for brief fleeting seconds, to the Age of the Dinosaurs and beyond.    Although current fern species appeared about 145 million years ago,  scientists have discovered them in 300 million year old fossil records.

Ferns reproduce via spores and have no seeds or flowers.   They drop millions, sometimes billions, of spores during their lifetime but very few ever land where conditions of moisture & light are right for them to grow.  There are thousands of species of ferns and their classification is still an evolving study.
