DAWN REDWOODS (Metasequoia Glyptostroboides) were found in fossil records 65 million years old and were once thought to be extinct. In 1944, they were rediscovered in China's Hubei Province and are now considered a living fossil. They are fast growing trees and can reach heights of 200 feet or about 60 meters. Unlike the other two types of redwood trees, I was very surprised to see the Dawn Redwoods shed their foilage during the winter months.
