TAIWANIA (Taiwania Cryptomerioides) are native to eastern Asia and members of the Cupressaceae or cypress family.  They are one of the largest trees in Asia.  The leaves on these cypress trees are needle-like up until 100 years old, then they become more scale-like in appearance.

Interesting Notes:

The Cupressaceae family includes about 130 species, including junipers and redwoods.  They are among the tallest and largest trees on Earth.  The bark of mature trees are usually reddish brown to orange in color.  Cupressaceae trees were found in fossil records dating from over 190 million years ago.
